On the Dot: Dotted Gradient Nails

Hi friends!  It's Arden, and I'm trying out a new recurring feature today: "On the Dot," where I showcase nail designs using dots!  I realized the other night that I really love to make dot designs, but I haven't been doing it as often as I'd like.

Before we begin, I should explain the tools I use to dot: namely, a few different sized wall nails and toothpicks.  I own exactly one dotting tool, which I originally bought to mark paper for easier folding while scrapbooking.  I hope someday to own a set of dotting tools with several size tips, but for now I'll just keep using whatever I can get my hands on!

I started this particular dotted design with two coats of Revlon Timeless.  Then I sponged on a gradient of Timeless and Maybelline Color Show Impeccable Greys.  (To learn more about gradients, see my gradient tutorial post.)  I used a small, 1 inch nail to dot on teeny tiny dots of Milani Black Magic, and then finished with a coat of Essie Good to Go.

I was pretty surprised by how much I liked the effect of Impeccable Greys sponged on.  It kind of reminded me of the textured grey background you find on Apple products sometimes.  Like this:

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy!  What do you think of these monochrome nails?  I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty attracted to the gray, but y'know, this design might look pretty nice in some bright colors for spring.  Do you think they would be better in a different color?

  1. Just read the entire blog. Literally the most fun I've had in days. Also more conscious of my cuticles than ever before.

  2. Very confused at to why I'm listed as eleanor. This is Sophie! Granted Eleanor is my middle name, but a. It lost at to why it would default to that? Hmmmm

    1. That's very very weird. Gonna just pretend you're trying to be incognito. I'm glad to know it's you! And your comment about cuticles cracked me up.
